Ed Borden : PWNING 9-5

What is "Ed Borden : PWNING 9-5" all about?

Ed Borden is the Director of Business Development at Puget Systems, a high-end custom systems builder. His blog is about the PC gaming industry from inside the industry, focusing on the gaming, business and hardware aspects.

Site Design

The site is hosted with his own domain on Blogger (blogspot.com). Everything you need on a blog is there, but the title attributes of the vertical icons on the left need to be corrected. Both "home" and "email" say "email" and both RSS icons say "rss" when the second should say "rss by email" or something like that.

Other than that, the theme looks great. The sidebar doesn't appear cluttered and it isn't overwhelmed by slow-loading widgets.

Article and Post Content

Although Ed is a professional, he sometimes writes his posts in the way gamers write on forums. It doesn't detract from the experience. His target audience will understand it and that's what matters. Consider the blog title.

Let's take his article on "A Network Card That Gives You the Power to DESTROY" as an example. The caption contains "ftw", which means "for the win". The rest of the article has very little "gaming language", which can be understood even by non-gamers like me.

My Overall Opinion

It's too early to guess whether this blog will do well or not. When Ed requested the review, he was using the blogspot.com domain. He just recently started using his own domain; hence the traffic stats won't be accurate for a few months, even with redirects in place.

It may be a gaming blog, but I look at it as a technology blog as well. Technology blogs, which remain focused on specific topics, always seem to do well. I look forward to dropping in from time to time.
