Article Reviews #8: It's All About The Coffee

Categories: Article Reviews Tags: , , , RT Cunningham @ 10:13 pm

Magnifying Glass After I finished my composition, "Coffee or Tea, Hot or Cold, But No Soda For Me", I decided that this particular article group would focus on blogs with articles about coffee.

The following articles are the ones I selected about some kind of coffee, some kind of coffee house, or just about anything related to coffee. They're not necessarily the best articles out there, but they're some of the ones I enjoyed reading. I enjoyed reading about coffee so much that the next batch will probably be about coffee again.

  • Jay of Jay Bird's Kansas City rendered his salute to coffee. I liked the poster so much, I stole it for my collection.
  • Clander presented coffee as first in the line of Stuff White People Like. Well, I don't think it's limited to white people and I don't think Clander gets out much.
  • Mac of Mac's Thoughts discovered a coffee house (or shop) called Coffee Break USA. The word "coffee" is what caught his eye while he was driving. When you're in need of coffee, any sign with the word is like a beacon in the wilderness.
  • Toni at Wifely Steps fell in love with a song titled "Falling in love at a coffee shop". She even posted the lyrics as she described it.
  • Shurikenstuff of a rush of blood to the head described The Coffee Effect and the effect it has on him.
  • Philip of Welcome to Philip’s Blog said that he can't function if he doesn't have his coffee in the morning. His brain cells have to be zapped with caffeine.
  • Ray of Ray's Monkey House spent most of his time around coffee shops and a coffee processing plant on his trip to Thailand trip. He provided photos.
  • Pall Bass wrote that coffee may be recession proof at the New Haven Independent (New Haven, CT).
  • Coffee Clash - Look Out Starbucks, Here Comes McCafé! Steve Levenstein at InventorSpot wrote about how McDonald's is giving Starbucks and other pricey coffee shops a run for the money.
  • John at the Unstuck Diaries extrapolates a theory on Chaos and cold coffee. Hot coffee getting cold in a mug is a GOOD thing.

  1. Jacinda says:

It seems like pop is dying down in popularity as a result of tea. Seems like tea died out for a while as a result of coffee and espresso drinks becoming a huge craze (but that has since died down since people realized $5 for a cup of Starbucks wasn't the best way to spend $5).

In response to the Coffee Clash link, I've never even heard of McCafe until now. I think it'll be really difficult for it to compete in the US as a result of Starbucks being everywhere and the negative view people have of McDonald's. I know McDonald's has had success with certain of its coffee beverages, but that really is the result of convenience.

  2. Tim from Welding Supplies says:

We have Starbucks in Canada, although most of us just go to Tim Horton's and get 'regular' coffee for a lot less than that fancy stuff. McDonalds coffee reminds me of either slightly tasty toxic waste, or a really crappy coffee simulation.

  3. RT Cunningham says:

@Jacinda: There are already 800 McCafes in the U.S. It probably isn't doing as well as in other countries.

@Tim: My experience is that McDonalds coffee has always been nasty-tasting and no amount of cream and sugar can fix it. I don't know about the McCafes though.

  4. John from Free Widgets for Websites says:

I go to Starbucks just about everyday.

Careful you don't get too hooked on it, has anyone heard of anyone going in to drug rehab for drinking too much coffee? me neither, but I suppose if people go to rehab for marijuana addiction, anything is possible.
